In a rice mill, rubber dehusking rollers are one of the most frequently replaced wear components. Because paddy varieties (e.g. Basmati, 1121, Sona Masoori, Swarna, hybrid paddy) differ in grain length and husk thickness, using the wrong rubber hardness or incorrect roller width will cause either excessive grain breakage or low dehusking percentages.

Always measure the width of the cast iron inner drum (core) rather than worn rubber edges, as rubber can expand, flare, or groove under heat and continuous friction.

Rubber rolls come in different hardness formulations depending on ambient temperature and paddy moisture:

• Standard / Brown Rubber (85–90° Shore A): Ideal for cold and temperate seasons with dry paddy.

• High-Heat / White Rubber (90–95° Shore A): Recommended for high-temperature summer milling and high-throughput continuous lines to prevent melting and rapid grooving.

• Soft Rubber (80–85° Shore A): Used for delicate, extra-long grain aromatic varieties (such as aged Basmati) to minimize head rice breakage.

Examine whether your husker uses aluminum core rolls, cast-iron core rolls, or clamp-type sleeve cores. Note the shaft bore diameter, keyway width, and locking mechanism (nut-clamp vs. set-screw).

Take a clear photograph of the end flange showing the model stamp or cast markings.
